Keep Your Eye on the Bird featuring Anna's Hummingbird

Here we have another Oakland local from the Lake Merritt Community Garden. I'll always think of these birds as the birds that got me into photographing birds as a subject. They're absolutely stunning, with these bright pink heads and they dart around almost faster than the eye can see; to get a clean shot, you need a very steady hand and a gentle approach, and even still, their wings move so fast and the angle of light changes their appearance so drastically that it's hard to keep the whole bird in full focus while it's in flight. So it's needless to say why they present an alluring challenge to the always-practing photographer. They also have a lovely birdsong, and it's the first I could ever recognize by ear.

I always enjoyed writing Haiku. I hope that this will be the first of many I can share with you all.
